Woot is a Hoot

Whenever I start thinking I’m a bit “tweaked” in the head, I simply click on my www.woot.com Firefox bookmark and read a new Woot sales pitch for their product of the day. Being “tweaked” in the head must be a job requirement, scribbled down in the Woot Company Handbook by their fresh out of college Human Resource majors.

If my eBay adventure ever crashes and burns I’m going to send my resume over to Woot.com immediately, if not sooner, as I’m confident what’s left my fried green tomato brain cells will fit right in, as evidenced by my very first eBay auction.

Positive Word About eBay

MY TAKE:

I just finished reading an article posted over at MSN entitled “Should eBay’s Meg Whitman resign?” and want to say a few positive words in defense of eBay.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t get all the “bitchin” about eBay. To read some of the comments posted by readers of that article and this eBay article at the New York Times, you’d think eBay had paid a hit man to kill their dear old Aunt Matilda. Yumpin Yimminees….what drives an eBay seller’s frustration level to these heights?

A Philatelic Cover Story

Amongst the zillion or so emails I receive each day are eBay store newsletters of some of the eBay stores I have thrown into my eBay favorites as an inspiration to me to create an eBay storefront someday.

It hasn’t worked.

I rarely look at these emails anymore but checked this one today for some reason. Man, does this guy have a great eBay storefront or what?

I’m mean come on look at this thing. It’s absolutely beautiful! Good for him!!! So I browse on over to his site and start admiring his store when it occurs to me,

The Multi-Headed Monster

Can Of WormsNo joke……each new can of worms you open is just chalk full of “Learning Curves” ready to sap hours…..no make the days worth of time from my all ready full schedule.

Oh..but..I forgot..everything is just so eeeeeasy to learn and do……isn’t that “theeee” line being sold on the Internet these days. No wonder so many people succeed at Internet Marketing.

Before I talk about my slow day take a “Tera”….peak at the nifty eBay search tool located on the left side of my blog. I get to throw this on my blog since I’m a member of Terapeak Market Research. It’s a pretty cool search tool and I’ll be using it myself.

Ebay Sales For Last Three Months

eBay SalesEbay’s Sales Reports Plus
has my May sales available. June has been very slow. Vacation time I guess. Whatever …
In my post of January 17th of this year entitled “Steady As She Goes” I said,

“What I’m interested in finding out is whether I can solidify existing sales across my two main brands at around $6,000 or $7,000 per month. I just haven’t spent enough time on eBay yet to feel confident predicting sustainable customer buying patterns in the categories I sell in.”

The Hardest Sale

The last two weeks have seen sales slow down appreciably; who knows why. I’m determined not to panic. Total sales in March were $6,411 on 233 sales of 328 items. To date I’m around $20,000 in total gross sales on eBay for the first three months of the year, below where I need to be if I’m going to reach my goal of $100,000 for the year in total gross eBay sales.

I haven’t changed any of my pricing. My feeling is to stick with what got me this far. I notice others selling my product lines that weren’t there before. Their pricing is absurd and I believe they won’t be around long with that kind of pricing even if they’re just trying to gain market share.

I’ve taken to listening to Sydney Johnston’s Auction Genius Live Course audio lessons I have on my hard drive. I listen most days while performing some of my more tedious tasks.

As stated in my last post, this blog may be changing direction. I’m thinking of using “my eBay adventure” to make me a few bucks and learn some “search engine optimization” at the same time.

My mind is changing on many business fronts and it’s exciting. I still feel “in the womb” when it comes to grasping the true “Entrepreneurial Spirit” that lives and breaths inside Sydney Johnston, “but its a coming”. I can feel it.

Positive Word About eBay

The more time I spend on ebay the more possibilities I see and the more optimistic I am about my success.

As far ebay’s fees go, if you’re whining about um….get over it.

I’m paying over $100.00 per month now and every penny is worth it. I hope I’m paying $1,000 per month this time next year.

Ebay is a bargain by any stretch of the imagination. Contrast ebay and Paypal fees against starting your own online store and it’s less than a no-brainer. Ebay still gives newbies, with the drive to succeed, a fighting chance.
