You win Bill

Well, this whole episode with “Ole Betsy” has shed some serious light on the fact I need to upgrade my ‘IT’ Department over here at MarJan’s MarketPlace.

While business is slower than I’d like it’s still coming in every day. Through 10 days this February I’ve sold $1,982 in gross sales. Nothing spectacular but it still keeps me busy.

Various size orders come in each day and I can’t be “messin-round” with computers all day long. That’s not gonna make me any money.

So this morning I broke-down and bought myself a used Dell Latitude Laptop off of ebay and a 160gig “My Book” Western Digital External Hard Drive from Circuit City.

I’ve already purchased a battery backup for “Ole Betsy” and will network all four of the computers I now own with each other and my new external hard drive once my new “used” laptop arrives and “Ole Betsy” gets a new heart.

The laptop should ease my conscience and extend the hours I feel comfortable working considerably. I’ll be able to work upstairs or wherever I want to. Right now I force myself out of my current work zone downstairs so the rest of the family knows I’m available if needed and just to make my presence felt.

I simply will not separate myself from the rest of my family for 16 hours at a time for the sake of my business. I’ll go under before I do that! When I sense my wife or son need my help I drop my business work immediately and help out. In fact on weekends the business comes in a poor second place to the “Wifey Poo” and my son.

It’s the least I can do for their “allowing me” to pursue my ebay adventure.

Back to computers; between “firewalls this, anti-virus software that” and anti-spyware all running in the background of each of my computers protecting every last “bit and byte” of information it’s a minor-miracle I can network my computers together at all.

You’ve got to stay up with the latest hardware and software technology like a Bill Gates or Steve Jobs in order to make the thousands of dollars worth of your investments work seamlessly together. What fledgling online business has the hours to burn in that technology pit?

Man, what a racket. But it’s not like I have much of a choice. It’s either stay in touch with the current hardware and software that’s out there or get run over by it. I’m in no position to argue at this point in my ebay adventure so I’m swallowing hard and bowing at the alter of “advanced” computer technology with the limited funds I have available to me.

You win Bill, this time!

Hey Rob,

Yep, “Ole Betsy” is up and runnin again! Her new heart is processing away like no tomorrow. Even the old CPU fan I yanked out because it was making all kinds of weird noices is working great now. Go figure :-)

Try to be proactive in taking care of a problem and see what happens.

Just goes to show you as things get older, whether they be people or machines, we may make more grunts and huffing and puffing sounds when we’re working but we’ll still get the job done so just leave us alone!

I got a new CPU fan still sitting inside its box. I’m afraid to touch that old CPU Fan now. I think it’s got it in for me.

Hold a ticket for me at the Metropolitan Tabernacle.

Mark
