Staying Fresh Takes Time
Oh to be a worker in France. Although French workers must be upset over the increase in their work week from 35 to 39 hours per week, companies are still mandated by the Government to give them a minimum of 5-weeks vacation each year.
Most workers receive more than 5 weeks, and many receive up to 8 weeks vacation per annum. An interesting article worth reading compares the worker’s lifestyle in France verses that of an American worker’s lifestyle.
While I don’t like the idea of government issuing edicts from on-high to employers, especially young companies trying to start a new business, the article raises several excellent arguments each American would do well to ponder as they work their life away trying to cash-in on the goose that laid the golden egg.
It’s an argument I wrestle with myself.
How much is too much work, 40, 50, 60, 70 hours per week? How much time away from my family am I willing to sell to obtain the results of my dream? And am I really working to make a better life for my family or am I just lying to myself so I can keep doing what I want to do?
I’ve been extremely careful, over-the-top careful, from day one of my eBay adventure, not to over work or to lie to myself about what I’m working for. I continually fight the temptation not to allow financially successful online entrepreneurs set my standards of success and the pace I choose to achieve that success.
Let them cross the finish line first. I work at not caring what they think!
I am “ON-PURPOSE” about not over-working.
When you begin to explore new horizons and new ways of living there is a stress, that while it keeps things continuously fresh, that same stress also acts as a governor on the speed you can safely and truly explore on your journey.
Staying fresh takes time.
I started my eBay adventure when I was 49 with the goal of creating a “retirement lifestyle” for my family by the time I was 55. Every time a tiny thought tries to squeeze it’s way into my mind when it’s most vulnerable and frighten me into thinking I’m falling behind, I ask that wayward puny thought a couple of questions,
“Whose schedule are you falling behind Mark? You’ve got 5 more years buddy, whose schedule are you falling behind yours or someone else’s?”
I’ve got a million things I’ve got to do better than what I’m doing now, but ya know what…..those things will wait until I’m good-n-ready.
Living like you’re already a millionaire without the money, frees the mind to think for itself, not to fear failure, and to be its own hero. The winner crossing the finish line isn’t the one with the most money in the bank at the end of the race, the winner is the one who cashes-in each step of way.
Things are slowly changing in my eBay adventure and I’m almost through selling myself on some of the marketing changes (YUK) necessary for the next leg of my online adventure.
One thing that won’t change is the boss of my eBay adventure. I’m the boss and I thank God everyday that I am.
