The Fog Rolls In

I fried a few brain cells this morning and early afternoon while producing some substantial work and then it came rolling imperceptibly under my office door.

A clear cool mist wafting up through the air and settling over my comfortably seated body. I didn’t notice the deadly effects at first but it didn’t take long before I was completely overtaken by its magnetic force pulling me into a negative state of mind.

As the effects became clearer I awakened to my entrapment and bolted for my office door. Running up my basement stairs I went for my trusty fog killers.

Luckily they were near by. Some undone dishes, unfolded cloths and a CD Player with hard rock n roll already loaded. Up went the volume and I went thrashing to work.

The menace lifted as quickly as it came and I felt the welcome relief of crystal blue persuasion.

Ah, Mark, my friend… I see that you, too, have visited this dank and merciless place! It helps to have some positive encouragement from someone who is in the same space. Thanks for all your hard work and contribution. I only hope I can be half as valuable to the group as you are!!!!

Oh, and just so this is not one of those “me too” posts which I abhor, I find that a change of venue often helps my state of mind, too. Sometimes when I’ve been sitting staring cross-eyed at the computer screen, tongue hanging out in total overwhelming confusion, the very best thing to do is GET UP and do something different for a while. Go to the post office. Clean the kitchen. Make dinner. Go work out… whatever. You know the sage who said the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result was right!!!! Don’t allow yourself to fall into ruts. Bust out of them before they lock their icy, steel clutch on you!!!!!!

To quote an owner of one of my favorite mailing lists,

I’m with you on the quest…

Andrea

Maybe we should be thinking of leveraging the fog to our advantage.

Moving through it, even if blindly, strengthens faith in ourselves and builds resolve to continue on.

A weight lifter leverages the weight he pushes to make him stronger.

Without the fog success will not taste as good or be appreciated as much when we recognize its presence.

Although I’m a believer that success is a process not a destination.

We’re all ready there, all we have to do is accept the reality and continue moving forward.

Mark
