The Purchase
My 49th two foot long receipt signed, the outside Consultant hired to liquidate 4 Radio Shack’s in my area and I crashed together our beer bottles in my kitchen and saluted each other for 4 days worth of “give and take”.
That evening the “Wifey Poo” glanced over at me for no reason and stated simply, you can’t do anything half way can you”? “Nope, I replied, “I can’t”. If I had a quicker wit I’d have shot back, “If it’s any consolation I love you with all, not half my heart”.
The truth is right now as I take time out to write this blog entry, I feel like a “Humble Bumble”. While my purchase is small in comparison to those who have an established eBay business, it’s a significant first purchase fraught with all kinds of dangers.
Many of the items purchased were on the shelves at 70% - 90% off for reasons beyond the store’s liquidation and I was fully aware of that. But as the Liquidator and I grew to know each other and he knew I could help him shut down each of the stores a few days early saving him a significant amount of hourly wages the deals he offered become too much for me to pass up.
That’s not to say I didn’t think long and hard before each receipt was signed, cause I did! Millions of synapses were firing off in my brain trying to ease the jitters I felt and to make me “feel 100% sure” of each decision. Well, the more receipts I signed the more comfortable I became with the fact that you can’t be sure of squat! There comes a time when you have to let go of the expert’s hands, think for yourself and trust the judgment you’ve acquired throughout the years. Every time I threw up negatives in my mind to a new offer proposed I came up with positive solutions. Maybe it was just wishful thinking or maybe I’m a genius, time will ruthlessly expose that truth.
In order to receive the Liquidators best offer I needed to agree to purchase entire wall sections of the store. Then he got excited and instead of 90% off the original price I received unbelievable rock bottom pricing.
That’s as much as I can say about the pricing I received and if I told you, you probably wouldn’t believe me anyway.
Mind you, 98% of the products purchased are in their original brand name plastic containers and are in pristine condition. Entire wall sections were purchased in all four stores in many categories such as:
- Cell Phones and Accessories
- Computer Cabling and Accessories
- Audio Visual Cabling and Accessories
- Ipod Accessories
- Car Accessories for cell phones
- Home Theater and Satellite TV Accessories
- Many other electronic items for the home
All I feel comfortable doing at this moment is giving you a peak into what transpired. We all like recognition when its favorable to our reputation but no one, including me, likes to be recognized as a fool and until more time has passed and my judgment either proved or disproved I don’t feel comfortable exposing the breadth of this purchase.
Plus in my mind this purchase is the equivalent of moving one pawn forward in a chess game. My hope is this purchase will act as a “buffer zone’ in terms of immediate income and time, allowing me to concentrate on other income stream methods taught in the Auction Genius Course.
It’s also my intention to squeeze every dime I can legitimately squeeze out of this purchase but I will also look hard at turning over large portions of my inventory when it suits my business needs.
I spent this past week renovating my entire basement to accommodate this purchase. It’s a transformation that is startling and no I won’t show any pictures. I’m still organizing and will be for weeks. It’s all good!

Hi Pat,
The Radio Shack deal will comprise one section of my eBay business as I move forward. The other section will be dedicated to high quality Home & Garden Products with high eBay sell-through rates including my coffee products.
I’ve purchased my first shipment of what I consider another high quality product made in America and I’ll be making a trip to Indianapolis this Wednesday to meet with Representatives of several other products I’m currently interested in.
Thanks for your interest and have a great week!
Mark
PS: These ARE my baby steps ![]()

Hi Mark,
Glad to see you didn’t get lost at Radio Shack. I was beginning to think we would have to send a search party for you.
It sounds like you have quite a task and investment in front of you. You are much braver than I am. I’m still in the infant stage with very small baby steps.
Are you still planning on selling your coffee stuff or switching completely to your new stuff?
Hang in there, I’m pulling for ya~
Pat
